Bakhtyar Pirzada al-Azhari
Bakhtyar Haider Pirzada al-Azhari was born in 1980 at a time when his noble father, Shaykh Muhammad Imdad Hussain Pirzada, was serving as the Head Imam and Minister of Religion in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire. Honoured with the blessed supervision and direct focus and attention of his father, Bakhtyar grew up in an atmosphere full of relentless devotion, love, commitment and struggle for the true cause of Islam.
Bakhtyar completed his initial Qur’an studies at home with his mother and father whilst he was still in primary education. After the age of 11, he spent the days studying the national curriculum within the state school sector, and spent the evenings studying Arabic language and the traditional Islamic disciplines and sciences with his father as well as traditional Islamic scholars lecturing at Jamia Al-Karam at the time. In 1993, at the age of 13, Bakhtyar was honoured to begin studying the Arabic text of Imdad al-Fiqh fi’l-‘Ibadat sitting at the feet of the Ummah’s Luminary, Justice Shaykh Muhammad Karam Shah al-Azhari in Frankfurt, Germany; an honour like no other. His studies continued in this manner and in 1998 he completed his A Levels in Physics and Mathematics from North Nottinghamshire College and in the same year, completing his Islamic and Arabic Studies, graduated from Jamia Al-Karam in a ceremony led by Shaykh Muhammad Amin al-Hasanat Shah al-Qurashi.
In 1998, Bakhtyar travelled to Cairo for higher Islamic Education and in 2003 completed his studies at the world’s oldest centre of Islamic learning, the University of Al-Azhar, and was awarded BA (Hons) in Islamic Jurisprudence and Law. After lecturing at Jamia Al-Karam for one year, he pursued post graduate education and in 2005 completed his MA in Islamic Studies from the University of Manchester. His MA thesis was titled ‘The Non-Biographical Aspects in Karam Shah’s Biography of Muhammad’; making him the first individual to present a thesis on the work of the Ummah’s Luminary in a Western university.
Bakhtyar has translated numerous articles into English from Urdu as well as the book The Ideal Mother; in light of the Qur’an,Sunna and Tradition by Shaykh Muhammad Imdad Hussain Pirzada. His recent translation is of the academic work of the Ummah’s Luminary, The Morning of Light; the sun rises over the horizon of prophethood. He constantly contributes to Al-Karam Publications in designing, typesetting and editing and is the managing editor of the Al-Karam Journal.
Bakhtyar has grown up closely seeing a perfect role model in the form of his noble father and has seen the struggle, hard work and dedication needed to work for the true cause of Islam. He has seen Jamia Al-Karam grow from an idea in the mind of an individual to a leading centre of spiritual and educational excellence. Since September 2005, Bakhtyar is working under the direct guidance of his father and is serving Jamia Al-Karam as the vice principal.
